Bermuda grass is a low growing fine to medium blade grass with a thick lush growing habit. It has high temperature and traffic tolerance and quick recovery from wear and stress. Bermudagrass is a warm-season perennial species adapted to tropical and subtropical climates. It grows best under extended periods of high temperatures, mild winters, and moderate to high rainfall.
Bermuda grass sod is great for both home and commercial properties and is often used on golf courses and sports fields. Bermuda has beautiful color, soft texture, and great wear tolerance. It can withstand heavy to moderate foot traffic and maintain its color simultaneously.
All four grasses we deliver, including Bermuda, are matched to South Louisiana's heavy clay soils, USDA hardiness zone 9a, and the long humid Gulf Coast summers.
Is Bermuda right for your Acadiana yard?
Pick Bermuda if you have:
- A full-sun yard with no significant shade
- Heavy foot traffic from kids, pets, or athletic use
- A new construction lot starting from bare dirt
- Willingness to mow weekly during growing season
Pick a different grass if you have:
- Heavy oak shade (go Palmetto St. Augustine)
- Premium family carpet feel (go Empire Zoysia)
- Low-maintenance rural acreage (go Centipede)

Bermuda cultivars we carry.
Tifway 419 Bermuda
The Acadiana standard. Fine blade, dense growth, fast establishment. The grass on most local sports fields.
TifTuf Bermuda
Highly drought-tolerant cultivar. Best pick for new subdivision builds where irrigation is limited or watering matters.
Celebration Bermuda
Premium dark green Bermuda with strong shade tolerance for a Bermuda. Common on golf courses and high-end residential.
Compare the other three grasses.

St. Augustine
Wide blade, dense growth, shade tolerant. Default for shaded older Acadiana lots.
See St. Augustine
Zoysia
Premium family yards, heavy traffic tolerance, carpet-like growth.
See Zoysia
Centipede
Low-maintenance grass. Best for sandy or acidic loam in rural Acadiana.
See CentipedeCommon Bermuda questions.
TifTuf for drought tolerance, Tifway 419 for the Acadiana standard. Both fill in fast on full-sun graded lots. Choose TifTuf if irrigation is limited.
Measure length times width in feet. Divide by 450 to get the number of pallets. One pallet covers approximately 450 square feet.
April through September is peak. Bermuda needs warm soil to establish. Avoid winter installs.
Weekly at 1 to 1.5 inches during the growing season. Never remove more than a third of the blade in one mowing.
Not well. Bermuda is a full-sun grass. Yards with significant oak canopy do better with St. Augustine or Zoysia.
